In late 2014/early 2015, I began following @bycamilllo on Instagram--stylized, artistic cartoon renderings he calls "dudes." His little dudes began showing up in my feed, and I lost my mind. I loved how he could portray people in both comic and very real ways at the same time. I couldn’t wait to see who would become a dude next, which famous face would be waiting in my feed.
After following this elusive man and his dudes for months, Camillo posted a contest on his page, and as an avid follower of his work, I immediately entered. To my surprise, about a week later there was an amazing message in my inbox...
@bycamilllo : “I choose you for a dude portrait.”
I thought it was a joke; I was so excited. I exchanged a few messages with the ultimate dude, himself. Sadly, Camillo and I live on opposite ends of the world. He had the ultimate task of capturing my true self through what I had chosen to portray on the internet.
He was spot on — the smirk on my face, always up to something, hair pushed out of my face with a funky headband…ready to get to work.
@bycamilllo created my favorite portrayal of myself. Camillo, you’re my dude.\\
